Noted Houston Trial Lawyer Rebecca Robertson To Lead Grassroots Advocacy Initiative

HOUSTON – The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Texas has named Rebecca Robertson, former partner in the international law firm, Baker Botts, LLP, to lead its new statewide membership and grassroots advocacy initiative, as well as the organization’s legislative work.
“I am honored to join the ACLU of Texas with its long and proud history of defending freedom,” said Robertson. “I look forward to engaging with people around the state on the issues that matter most to them, and to representing their interests to our policy makers.”
At Baker Botts, Robertson’s practice focused on complex commercial litigation, and she served as co-chair of the firm’s securities litigation practice group and chair of the firm’s LGBT affinity group. She also helped found the firm’s pro bono committee and led the amicus team working on the landmark civil rights case challenging the Texas sodomy law, Texas v. Lawrence. Robertson is a graduate of the Harvard Law School (J.D. 1995) and Rice University (B.A. Philosophy 1991).
ACLU of Texas Executive Director Terri Burke said, “We are pleased to have such an experienced advocate join our organization. As we return to the origins of the ACLU of Texas as a grassroots organization, we are counting on Rebecca and her team to recruit and enlist Texans all over the state as part of our Community Action Network (CAN).”
CAN is a grassroots advocacy plan to engage Texans in advocating for public policy change at all levels of government; local, county, and state. Priorities for advancing civil liberties include religious freedom, youth rights, criminal law reform, and safeguarding American values along Texas’ southern border.
