HOUSTON – Last night President Obama announced a package of executive actions that could temporarily shield more than four million undocumented immigrants from deportation.

The following statement can be attributed to Terri Burke, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Texas:

“We applaud President Obama’s extension of relief to millions of immigrants and their families, but millions more remain excluded. We will continue to fight for those immigrants left unprotected, as well as the residents of our border communities, who continue to face life amidst the tools and language of war: guns and troop surges in their streets, public parks and backyards. Customs and Border Protection is the nation’s largest and most dangerous police force and lacks proper oversight and accountability. The Obama Administration and Congress still need to rein in this out-of-control agency, and our government -- namely Congress -- needs to once and for all reform an immigration system that is out of date and outmoded.”

TAKE ACTION: Sign this petition urging President Obama and Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson to establish a robust investigation and complaint process for holding CBP agents accountable for any abuses against local residents in border communities.
