Julia Montiel joined the ACLU of Texas in August 2019 as a Paralegal/ Field Investigator based in the Houston office. Prior to joining the ACLU, Julia worked as a Paralegal for Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll PLLC, in Washington, D.C., assisting in plaintiff-side litigation that focused on employment-based discrimination, and other civil rights issues. While in Washington, D.C., she volunteered for the Workers’ Rights Clinic at the Washington Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs as a client intake volunteer. She also volunteered as a Spanish interpreter for the CAIR Coalition.
Julia graduated as a first-generation college student from Mount Holyoke College with a bachelor’s in Psychology and Latin American Studies. While in college, she developed a mentorship program for young minority girls at the local high school.
A native of Miami, FL and daughter of Nicaraguan parents, Julia is passionate about immigrants’ rights, workers’ rights and smart justice.
