Selene Escalera is the ACLU of Texas' content developer. In this role, Selene is responsible for working across departments to create impactful messages for the organization's diverse audiences.
Born in Mexico and raised in Wisconsin, Selene then traveled east to attend Smith College where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Latin American studies and Portuguese. She later pursued graduate studies in applied linguistics at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

There, she managed all communications functions, including strategic planning, media relations, website, social media, and even spearheaded the successful rebranding of the 30-year-old agency.
Selene is also committed to volunteering with other nonprofits including Baker Ripley, the Partnership for the Advancement and Immersion of Refugees (PAIR), and most recently, the Houston Latino Film Festival.
