DALLAS — Judge John Creuzot defeated incumbent Faith Johnson in the race for Dallas County district attorney. With more than half of the votes tallied, Creuzot had a wide lead of 60 percent of the vote.

“Over the course of his campaign, District Attorney-elect John Creuzot has expressed a growing commitment to the ACLU's Smart Justice reform principles,” said Sharon Watkins Jones, director of political strategies for the ACLU of Texas. “The ACLU of Texas looks forward to working with him to accomplish the ambitious reform commitments he made during the campaign, in particular his pledge to reduce state jail and prison admissions by 15-20 percent within four years.”

The ACLU of Texas Smart Justice campaign has spent more than a year in Dallas County educating voters about the importance of the district attorney’s office, engaging the candidates, and prioritizing an end to mass incarceration and racial disparities in the Dallas County criminal justice system.
