Sophia Howard is an LDF Marshall-Motley Fellow at the ACLU of Texas. Their work focuses on the reproductive rights of incarcerated women and carceral system reform. Before joining the ACLU of Texas, Sophia was a legal intern with the ACLU of Louisiana, and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. 

While in law school, Sophia founded the Civil Legal Justice Project, a student-run initiative that provides civil legal aid to low-income Black and Brown individuals in Nashville, TN. Additionally, they served as the Executive Digital Editor of the Social Justice Reporter and as president of the Black Law Students Association. 

They have a forthcoming publication entitled "The Motherhood Gap: A Global Comparison of Prison Nurseries and the Failure of the U.S. to Keep Up," to be published in the Vanderbilt Law School Social Justice Reporter. 

Sophia received their bachelor's in philosophy and Comparative Women's Studies from Spelman College and a Juris Doctorate from Vanderbilt Law School.
