Valeria Alvarado is a Texas native proudly raised in Southeast Houston who serves as the legal assistant at the ACLU of Texas.

She received a bachelor's degree in History from Villanova University. As an undergraduate, she conducted research in Rwanda and Bosnia on post-Genocide peace reconciliation. In 2019, she received the U.S. State Department Fulbright Award and spent a year in Belgrade, Serbia working as a teaching assistant at the University of Belgrade. Upon returning to Texas, Valeria worked with the YMCA of Greater Houston Immigration Unaccompanied Minors Program where she assisted with direct legal services for newly arrived migrant minors.

In her free time, Valeria runs a Texas Authors book club with her friends and neighbors.
