Instead of focusing on urgent community needs like flood recovery, Governor Abbott is instead putting mid-decade redistricting front and center in a blatant attempt to further gerrymander representation in Congress ahead of 2026.
This rushed, unnecessary process was launched while Texas’ current maps are still being challenged in federal court. It is a blatant power grab, designed to dilute the voices of communities of color, suppress young and working-class voters, and redraw the rules to benefit those already in power.
