Bio

Tommy Buser-Clancy joined the ACLU of Texas in 2018 as a staff attorney. Prior to joining the ACLU, Tommy was a commercial litigator in private practice, managing a diverse docket in state and federal courts across the country. Tommy’s significant experiences in representing pro bono clients inspired him to leave private practice and join the ACLU.

Tommy grew up in Texas and is proud to be defending the civil liberties of Texans, especially those in marginalized communities.

Tommy graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in Plan II, Russian, and English. He received his J.D. from the Yale Law School.

Over a dozen voter suppression bills to be heard April 8

The House Elections Committee is hearing more than twelve different voter suppression bills on Thursday, April 8. These bills build on Senate Bill 7 and House Bill 6 to make voting harder and scarier in Texas. Whether through big bills like HB 6 and SB 7 or many smaller ones, suppressing the right to vote is never acceptable.

House Bill 6 (HB 6) is no ordinary voter suppression bill. Not only would the proposed legislation make it much more difficult for Texans to vote, it would make voting potentially dangerous with a new series of extreme criminal penalties.
