Bio
Brian Klosterboer is a Senior Staff Attorney who engages in impact litigation and advocacy to advance and defend the civil rights and liberties of all Texans. Since joining the ACLU of Texas as a Skadden Fellow in 2018, Brian has primarily focused on protecting the rights of LGBTQIA+ Texans, especially transgender, non-binary, and gender diverse youth. He also specializes in the First Amendment, students’ rights, and policy change before school districts, local governments, and the Texas Legislature.
Brian serves as an adjunct law professor at South Texas College of Law Houston, where he teaches Civil Rights Litigation, and he is a recent past chair of the LGBTQ+ Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. A native of Round Rock, Texas, Brian brings a global perspective to civil rights work. He previously lived in Kampala, Uganda, where he conducted research on a Fulbright Fellowship, worked as a journalist, co-founded a bar and restaurant, and interned for a human rights organization providing legal assistance to Uganda’s LGBTQIA+ community. Brian graduated from Centre College in Danville, Kentucky and earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School. He started his legal career clerking for the Honorable Vanessa Gilmore of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas and is licensed to practice law in Texas and New York.
