Bio
Caro Rivera Nelson is a Samuels Family Legal Fellow at the ACLU of Texas. Her work has focused on litigation and advocacy to protect the rights of border and immigrant communities. Prior to joining the ACLU of Texas, Caro served as a law clerk for Chief Judge Mary H. Murguia of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and Judge Jesus G. Bernal of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Immediately after law school, Caro worked as a Gallogly Public Interest Fellow at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) in Washington, DC.
Caro is originally from Corpus Christi, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas School of Law. While in law school, she interned for MALDEF, the ACLU Immigrant Rights Project, the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES) and Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA). She also worked as a student attorney in the Immigration and Civil Rights Clinics, volunteered with Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) and served as a teaching assistant for a course on race and the law. Caro received a B.A. in history from Yale University.
