Bio
Fabiola Alvelais is a staff attorney with the ACLU of Texas, where she works to protect and advance civil rights and civil liberties.
A native of the El Paso–Juárez border region, Fabiola earned her bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Texas at El Paso, graduating with honors, and her law degree from Harvard Law School. During law school, she was a student attorney in the International Human Rights Clinic, a member of the Harvard Latin American Law Review, and a board member of La Alianza student organization.
Prior to joining the ACLU of Texas, Fabiola was the recipient of two prestigious human rights fellowships, through which she worked on justice initiatives in Bolivia, Brazil, and Mexico. She has also advanced legal and advocacy efforts in Puerto Rico, Ghana, Western Sahara, and Honduras, among others. Before returning to public interest work, Fabiola practiced commercial litigation in New York, representing clients in state and federal courts.
Fabiola is proficient in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.
