Bio
Ivonne Diaz grew up in the border town of El Paso, Texas, attended her local community college, and eventually graduated in 2013 from The University of Texas at El Paso with a double major in Psychology and Philosophy. After graduating, she worked at The Center for Health Care Services in San Antonio, TX.
In 2018, she started working on different political campaigns in Texas, Georgia, and New York. She has visited the Texas and U.S. Capitol to talk to legislators about immigration and other issues. Her advocacy for abortion rights started in June 2022 after Roe v. Wade was reversed. Ivonne testified and shared her abortion story with City Council officials and the former District Attorney of El Paso. Alongside partner organizations, she also launched a campaign to deprioritize prosecutions related to abortions, and the El Paso City Council passed the “Grace Act” in January 2023 — allowing police to deprioritize investigations for abortion seekers and providers.
Apart from her immigration and abortion advocacy, she has also worked with other local governments, municipalities, and nonprofits across the country to help them apply for community change grants through the Environmental Protection Agency.
