Oppose: This bill (and companion bill HB 6) would reduce the timeframe for medication abortion from 70 days to 49 days, essentially banning medication abortion in Texas. It would also prevent the mailing of medication abortion drugs and add additional, medically unnecessary reporting requirements for abortion providers, including an impossible requirement that providers report on pregnancy complications that occur during subsequent pregnancies.

Update August 30, 2021: SB 4 was passed favorably by the Senate and sent to the House where it was assigned to the Public Health committee. The committee held a private hearing on Aug. 23 and voted in favor of the bill. It was then passed favorably by the full House.
