HOUSTON – House bill 1777 is scheduled for a public hearing in the state’s capitol today. The bill is designed to implement a comprehensive study of the international-trade impacts resulting from wait times at points of entry between the United States and Mexico. The following quote can be attributed to Astrid Dominguez, Brownsville advocacy coordinator for the ACLU of Texas:

“As Washington debates immigration reform, it is of utmost importance that our leaders in Austin support enhancements and improvements to our ports of entry. House bill 1777 is a step in the right direction, providing for a study of the effects of wait times at our southwest border on international trade. It is time to invest in the real necessities of our Texas border to improve commerce and tourism, rather than spending ever more resources on ‘securing’ our border.”
