A federal prison in the El Paso area was locked down Wednesday after some inmates started fights that left several of them slightly hurt.

Authorities at the La Tuna Federal Correctional Institution say no prison personnel were hurt in last night's disturbance.

Officials say some inmates started brawling on their way back from a recreation yard.

Several prisoners suffered minor injuries.

Authorities are trying to determine what sparked the fights.

Visitation and work details at the Federal Correction Institution are suspended during the lockdown, which a spokesman says could last several days.

The institution, in Anthony, is a low security facility that house only male inmates.
