Texas Coalition Opposes New Voter ID Requirements As Unnecessary, Costly And Unfair To Disabled, Poor and Minorities

AUSTIN – Representatives of several statewide organizations, including the League of Women Voters, Texas NAACP, MALDEF and the Coalition of Texans with Disabilities, will hold a press conference calling on the Texas Legislature to reject a new photo ID requirement proposal that would create the most the restrictive voter identification requirement in the nation.
The measures proposed by SB14 are costly, unnecessary, and would only serve to discourage and disenfranchise legitimate voters, especially the disabled and minorities, throughout the state. Texas already ranks last of all states, in voter turnout. Texas needs to increase voter turnout, not enact new measures to further suppress citizen participation.
