The ACLU of Texas, along with ACLU National, the Next Generation Action Network Legal Advocacy Fund, Civil Rights Corps, and Susman Godfrey LLF, filed a federal class-action lawsuit against Dallas County and Sheriff Marian Brown. The lawsuit seeks the immediate release of anyone over the age of 50 and those who are most vulnerable to contracting the COVID-19 virus.

The complaint is on behalf of nine individuals inside the jail. All have described that there is almost no means to protect themselves from the COVID-19 virus. In addition to requesting the release of individuals, the lawsuit highlights the need for jails to adopt sufficient public health protocols as recommended by public health experts, such as physical distancing and free access to soap and masks.
