The ACLU of Texas along with ACLU National, the Center for Gender & Refugee Studies, and Oxfam filed a federal lawsuit to stop the deportation of children detained in hotel rooms by the Trump administration under an emergency declaration citing the coronavirus as reason to do so.

The lawsuit states the Trump administration is secretly holding unaccompanied children in hotels and that the administration is refusing to give lawyers access to these children. Without access to representation, the administration can easily expel the children from the U.S. back to danger, without providing them their legally protected right to show they warrant asylum. The case was filed in federal court in Washington, D.C. on behalf of the Texas Civil Rights Project.
