Oppose: This bill (and companion bill HB 12) would erect significant barriers for community bail funds that provide crucial resources for individuals who are too poor to pay for their release, as well as provide a needed safety valve for counties. It expands pretrial detention and undermines the presumption of innocence that is central to our criminal legal system.

Update August 30, 2021: SB 6 was passed favorably by the Senate and sent to the House. The House Constitutional Rights & Remedies committee held a hearing on Aug. 23 and voted in favor of the bill. It was then passed favorably by the full House.
