HOUSTON — Reacting to the Prairie View A&M voting precinct issue, ACLU of Texas Legal Consultant Matthew McCarthy said: “The ACLU of Texas calls on officials in Waller County to take immediate action to correct voter registration issues impacting hundreds of Prairie View A&M students. Students who registered to vote using an off-campus university address — which they were told to use by county and university officials — are now being told they must complete a Statement of Residence form before voting on campus. The county should use its discretion to allow the affected students to vote in the campus precinct without additional paperwork, or provide on-campus assistance to help students update their registrations prior to Election Day, so that Prairie View students face no additional burdens in casting a vote."
