AUSTIN, Texas — Gov. Greg Abbott announced 11 priority agenda items for the special session beginning Thursday, including bills that target voting rights, reproductive rights, and marginalized communities.

The following quote can be attributed to Oni Blair, executive director of the ACLU of Texas:

“Either Gov. Greg Abbott is unaware of the pressing issues facing our state, or he doesn’t care. The governor has chosen once again to play politics and attack the rights of Texans without addressing the real needs of his constituents. The agenda for the special session focuses on extreme measures that do not benefit Texans, including bills that will suppress voting rights, target trans students, and criminalize poor people. The ACLU of Texas has been protecting Texans from these types of assaults on our civil rights and liberties for over eight decades, and we won’t stop now.”
