March 19, 2006 - EDINBURG - Leadership is new, and abuses have dwindled, but Edinburg's juvenile prison is still recovering from a rash of beatings and altercations with juvenile prisoners in late 2004.
AUSTIN - Elected officials are vowing to investigate a sharp increase of abuses confirmed in Texas' juvenile prison system.
AUSTIN - The Texas Youth Commission has asked the U.S. Department of Justice for help in assessing the way it reports and investigates abuse against youth in state juvenile prisons.

AUSTIN - Ten years after Texas legislators went on a prison-building binge to ease overcrowding, the issue is back; a big sign that something bigger is wrong with the corrections system and needs to be fixed, criminal justice groups said Wednesday.
