Nearly one in four people in the United States has an abortion by age 35.

The U.S. Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade completely eliminated abortion access in Texas.

2021

The year in which the most abortion restrictions ever were enacted across the United States.

We work at the federal, state, and local levels to advance reproductive justice and abortion access. We know the decision to have an abortion is best left to an individual person, their loved ones, and their doctor. Yet, extremist politicians in Texas and around the country have passed civil and criminal laws banning abortion care and putting people and communities at risk.

Abortion is currently banned in Texas. Soon after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022, Texas’ “trigger law” went into effect, prohibiting abortion at all stages of pregnancy and threatening imprisonment and fines. Previously, Gov. Greg Abbott enacted Senate Bill 8 into law on September 1, 2021. This law effectively banned abortion around six weeks of gestation and gave strangers unprecedented authority to act as bounty hunters and collect up to $10,000 per abortion for taking doctors, health centers, and anyone who helps another person access abortion to court. These two laws are the latest in a long line of abortion restrictions in Texas.

A majority of Texans support the right to an abortion. That’s why Texans of different races, ages, and genders are joining the Texas Abortion Advocacy Network Academy to learn from experts, build community with other Texans, and work together to restore and expand abortion access in our own communities.
