HOUSTON — The language for Item 11 on the Houston City Council agenda was released Tuesday regarding Houston's immigration ordinance. There will be a vote Wednesday on the future of the ordinance.

The following quote can be attributed to Nikki Luellen (she/her), policy and advocacy strategist on justice system and carceral reform:

“There should be no mistake: Mayor Whitmire's Item 11 is an effective repeal of Proposition A and a green light for deeper collaboration between ICE and the Houston Police Department.

Voters are watching as city councils across Texas decide whether to side with Governor Abbott and ICE or with the Constitution and our communities. ICE is extremely unpopular and the majority of Texans do not want local police doing the job of immigration agents. If our council members don't listen to us now, before the vote, then they will hear it at the ballot box.
