This afternoon, the San Antonio City Council voted 8-3 to update the city’s non-discrimination ordinances to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in city employment, housing, and public accommodations.

Comment from Rebecca L. Robertson, Legal and Policy Director, ACLU of Texas:

"We applaud the members of the San Antonio City Council who voted to treat all residents and visitors to the city equally by prohibiting discrimination. No one should lose his or her job or be denied service or a place to live because of sexual orientation or gender identity. Many San Antonio residents, faith leaders, veterans, and local businesses spoke out in recent weeks to demand fair treatment for everyone, and today the city council proved it had been listening.”
