The ACLU and the ACLU of Texas today sent a follow-up letter to Flour Bluff Independent School District asking for a formal response to our March 2 letter concerning our client Nikki Peet’s attempts to form a Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) at Flour Bluff High School. Although the FBISD Board of Trustees passed a resolution on March 8 to temporarily allow extracurricular clubs to meet on campus, we have never received a direct communication from the school that addresses the GSA. We have asked for a clearly articulated response that details how Nikki can proceed with forming the GSA.

Additionally, the ACLU has received reports that students were forbidden from discussing the GSA, and were kept from areas of the school where they may have been able to see the March 4 rally in support of the club. The letter addresses our intention to investigate these allegations.

The latest letter to the school district is available here. The previous letter is available here.

If you would like to speak to anyone on the record, I’d be happy to help arrange that.
