Texans voted to amend our state Constitution to define marriage as being between a man and a woman, thereby denying the validity of domestic partnerships between both same- and opposite-sex couples.

The ACLU joins our coalition partners Equality Texas and No Nonsense in November, the LGBT community and all civil libertarians in mourning liberty's loss to bigotry on Election Day.

Now the struggle for fairness and equality for all Texans moves to different arenas.  The ACLU of Texas, the ACLU LGRP, and coalition partners such as Lambda Legal and HRC will shift the focus toward other methods of effecting change.

While we evaluate the options in light of yesterday's vote, we urge all Texans who have experienced discrimination to click here to tell your story.

By sharing your experiences, you help us educate people about the impact discriminatory laws like Proposition 2 have on people, families and communities.  Stories of real couples put a face on the issue, affect public opinion and influence legal debate.  Your stories can help shape our strategy moving forward.
